Studio Policies

Thanks for your interest in Baylor Music.

What is expected at a typical lesson?

A parent should plan to attend each lesson, observe, and write down practice instructions.

Students are encouraged to arrive 5 minutes before their lesson time, enter quietly, and observe the previous lesson.

Lessons are 30 minutes per student and feature individualized instruction both on and off the bench.  Longer lessons are available for advanced students.

What should we do at home?

Students should practice a minimum of four days each week with parent help.  Five or even six days is even better!

Practice instructions will be written down at each lesson and daily practice activities should be logged on the note sheet.

Recordings will be made available as often as possible for working pieces.  Parents and students should work together to listen to available recordings on a daily basis.

How does scheduling work?

Lessons should be cancelled with at least 24 hours notice.  Makeup lessons are difficult to schedule and will only be offered if a time slot is available within the normally scheduled Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday times.

Video lessons via Zoom, Skype, or Facetime are available in case of inclement weather or other scheduling conflicts.

(See this article for an interesting parent’s perspective on makeup lessons.)
